Ryan Dyment has opened the Sharing Depot in Toronto to let people borrow stuff they don’t really need to own – whether it’s because they don’t have the space, the money or simply the desire to collect more consumer goods.
The former accountant walked away from a finance career for more meaningful pursuits in 2009, after he began to question the sustainability of modern economies and monetary systems. “Generally the largest impact that an individual makes is through the products they consume,” he says. “We have to find a way to consume less stuff if we care about the environment, if we want to live here for many generations.”
